Iconic footwear: Clarks Wallabees, everything to everyone?

Well Dressed Dad

Another quality guest post by Scratch!

Well Dressed Dad has been obliquely nagging for a piece to be written upon these shoes for a while now. As it is, he is a latecomer to this most excellent of folds having only just purchased his first pair at a ripe old age so knows little more than he likes the look of them and let’s face it, every man should have a pair of these of some description in their shoe stack.

The Wallabee has been produced by Clarks shoes since 1967 and comes in two classic styles – the shoe and the boot. Both are simplicity itself being made out of two pieces of leather or suede in the classic moccasin style, two eyelets and riding on a natural crepe wedge sole delivering a great look with supreme comfort – and while the paler ones may look tatty sooner than you’d like, they are very durable.

What is Writing 101?

Writing 101 is a four-week course that runs from Monday, April 6, to Friday, May 1, 2015. Each weekday, you’ll get an assignment that includes a writing prompt and an optional “twist”; prompts are your topic inspiration for the day, while twists push you to experiment with writing techniques and tools.

Who else is really building their writing habit?… I wake up multiple times each night to check the time and see if it’s time to get up and write because I’m so excited. I’ve never felt this way before! I think I’m in lurve.

I’ve lived in shelters, soI can relate!!!

A walk with my camera

I have shied away from visiting temporary relocation shelters for many reasons, one of them being the lack of dignity afforded to the residents in these communities.

These bunkhouses are separated by a single sheet of plywood which offers very little in terms of privacy.  There isn’t even a ceiling to shield the interior from the heat radiating from the hot tin roof.

Outside, buckets and basins holding stored household water line up the alley.  Bathing is done in the open by young and old alike, but with clothes on.

A typical bunkhouse is approximately 100 square feet.  It serves as the living room, dining room, bedroom, entertainment room, and whatever room it needs to be.  It is barely the size of a single hotel room and and it doesn’t have a toilet.

Months have already passed and there is still no update as to when a permanent shelter will be provided, or if there will be any…

Ben E. King 1938-2015

On April 30 we lost another legend. Mr. Benjamin Earl King. A “Drifter” who wanted us to “Stand By Him” and asked that we “Save the Last dance” for him and then asked that we “Don’t play that song” no more for “He who had nothing”. So as he takes that last walk through “Spanish Harlem” He will be saying “There Goes my Baby” who’s love is like a “Supernatural thing” as we “Count the Tears” May He Rest In Peace !!! MR. BEN E.
